It's not the corporate world, that's for sure!

The last 2 days of orientation of Highland Meadows Christian Pre-School have been a totally different experience than the last 7 years of my life! The people are great but the context is so different, as you can imagine. I really like my "lead teacher" that I will be working with so I'm looking forward to getting to know her and everyone else for that matter. I will be working with the "younger twos" and our class will be the KANGAROOS!! Seeing that neither of us have a clue as to what we are doing...it will be interesting.

That is hard to figure out...

Yesterday we turned on the weather station because it looked like North Texas was going to get some rain. The map of Texas appeared and Gavin said (just like the weatherman he is) "See here, mom, this is the world of Texas..." That a boy!! There is no other place in the world, right?

Well, that's a weird place for a party!

After weeks and weeks of talking about Gavin's party I finally decided to make him decide once and for all where he wanted his birthday party. So I sat him down and asked him..."Where do you want your party? Pump It Up or bowling or swimming?" His answer was "The racetrack!" Then and there I decided that he will NOT go to Retama Park with Pawpaw anymore!!!!

Day 1

So, today is "Day 1" of my new job...staying home with the boys. It was with mixed emotions that I left DCFS because the last 7 years I have learned a lot and met a TON of great people!!! I was sad when I walked out the door but it quickly turned to relief because I've been looking forward to this time for awhile. I don't think it's really hit me because the boys are at daycare this week. I am starting with the Pre-School tomorrow so I needed childcare for that time, which they don't mind! I don't know if the boys realize what's going on but it will be a change for them as well. For some reason, our family has always been good with change so hopefully this will suit us well. I know Brandy has been very supportive and encouraging during this time and I am so thankful for that. I'm sure they'll be an update tomorrow after my first day at the pre-school!

Please don't make a scene...

A couple Sundays ago was communion Sunday at church. Gavin decided to attend service with us instead of go to Sunday School so I asked him if we wanted to go receive communion with me. He quietly walked down to the altar with me and as the preacher handed him his bread he dropped it in between the cushion and the railing. He was very upset and as a mom I was looking at him thinking "please don't get upset...all these people are watching us!!" He proceeds to fold his arms and "whisper" (but very loudly) "I DROPPED MY BREAD MOM..." i tried to convince him that this was a time he needed to pray and think about God yet he insisted that he needed to tell him he dropped his bread. So, I had to get up and walk him back to the pew, hands folded and pouting lips and all!!!! I'm sure people were thinking "well what happened there?" He really wanted a piece of bread but what was I going to do, tell the preacher "Um, my son dropped his bread and REALLY wants another piece...we'll pray extra for it!"

Am I THAT old?

The other day as we were passing by Six Flags on the way to the YMCA, Gavin asked me if I had ever been there. Here is our conversation:

G: Have you ever been there?
M: Yes but a long time ago
G: Like when I was in your belly?
M: No, when I was a little girl.
G: Like when the dinosaurs where here?

Well, not THAT long ago but it does seem like centuries ago...

Excuse me?

For some reason, we get a magazine called "Birthday Express" in the mail and it has 25 pages of different birthday party themes in it that you can purchase. Gavin LOVES to look at it; he reads it in the car on the way to school and then again when he gets home. He is trying to pick out his birthday party "theme". There are so many choices like fire trucks, dinosaurs, cars, Star Wars etc. As he was looking at it last night he said "MOM LOOK...BEEEAAAN-A-DIA". For the life of me I couldn't figure out what he was saying, I thought he was saying something about his old teacher "Ms. Nadia". As I walk over there he is pointing to a pinata!!!

This morning was the typical crazy morning at our house. After Brandy left with the boys, I look over and see Luke's bag with his bottles. I called Brandy and told him to stop and I would bring them to him. He wasn't too far so I drove to them. I rolled down the window and handed Brandy the bag. As I drove off, Gavin said to Brandy "That Mom is just a hand full..." Brandy asked him what he had just said and he repeated it and started laughing!! Brandy immediately called me and said "you know what your son just said about you?" Who knows where he got that from...
