Sweet boy...

Melts my heart...

Gavin wrote his New Year's resolution down at school and they were sent home the other day. I had such mixed emotions. I was sad that he thinks he is "bad" but I was also glad to see his honesty. What a sweet boy!

Today...

I'm sitting here at 9:45pm in my SILENT and peaceful house thinking about what an array of emotions I went through today (like all mothers, I'm sure!). Here's a recap:

Glad: that Gavin was returning to school for the first time in 3 weeks (and that he was excited about it too)

Excited: that I found the party supplies that I needed to decorate for my Bunco party on Friday (and Luke sat still in the cart for about 15 minutes while I was doing it)

Surprised: that Luke entertained himself and it wasn't by watching The Wiggles. He played with matchbox cars/trucks and a couple larger ones while I unloaded the dishwasher and cleaned up the kitchen. He was actually kind of quiet, a little destructive, but for the most part quiet

Frustrated: that Luke is still throwing a fit when he has to take a nap w/o the binky! Therefore, if he sleeps at all, he only sleeps for an hour or so

Angry: that I stayed in Wal-Mart 5 minutes too long for Luke. I literally needed 4 things and because Luke was doing OK in the cart, I decided to look for a couple more things...MISTAKE. He gave a "raspberry" to the check-out lady that tried to talk to him...how embarassing!

Relieved: that there were several older boys that Gavin got to play with at the park

Frustrated: when the boys wouldn't stop fighting as I was trying to put dinner on the stove, it would've only taken me about 10 minutes total, if I didn't have to stop and referee the 2 of them
Mad: that Gavin was being "sassy" and making snide remarks to our neighbor, Reagan, who was learning to ride her bike for the first time

Ecstatic (to the point of tears): to see Gavin riding HIS bike without training wheels for the first time (inspired by Reagan in the previous emotion), and he was pretty darn good!

Excited: to see Brandy's face as he saw Gavin ride his bike for the first time

Pissed: that my dinner wasn't ready by 6:45pm (because I had been outside watching Gavin ride his bike for the first time) and we had to order pizza

Happy (heart melting): when Luke laid down without a binky and said "i wuv u ma..." without prompting him to...no peep out of him after that!!!!!

Sad/confused: when Gavin wants me to lay with him in bed and he proceeds to ask me questions about the "bad guys" that we are trying to catch in "that country" (Afghanistan/Iraq)...long story but he will NOT forget the bad guys that flew the planes into the buildings before he was born. He says he is scared (aren't we all???)

Relieved: when I walk in to Gavin's room and he is asleep (after 10 minutes of me trying to find the stupid lullaby music to play for him so he can fall asleep easier)

Exhausted: as I sit here typing this. Typing this out makes me feel better and realize how important my job is...

(Upset: that Mia, our dog, just half way woke Gavin up and he is crying in his room, still half asleep. I turned the lullaby music up! stupid dog collar)

Bunco night!

For some reason, at my first Bunco night in November, I volunteered to host in January. This is only the second Bunco for this group so it's new to everyone and it's fun. I'm telling myself NOT to stress out about it, I have most of everything I need. We have beer and wine from our Christmas partyso that's easy. I chose the them "Cinco de Mayo" in January so we'll have margaritas, queso and some quesadillas. Should be easy, right? I just have to help Brandy figure out what to do with the kiddos until about 9ish...ha! Usually, it's a night to chat with friends and get to know people with no stress but having it at yor own house doesn't seem "stress-free". Oh well, there's next month!

Bossy, bossy

I always wonder if my 5 year old is "normal". Are other 5 years olds like this? He's been very "sassy" and has begun rolling his eyes on a consistent basis. Today he was looking for this red clay that he got from my parents' house last week. He couldn't find it ans was very frustrated so I asked him, "have you found it yet?"...he looked at me and rolled his eyes and said "if I had found it, I would have it in my hands!" I tried so hard not to laugh at him but I had to turn around and do it...sigh....

Luke is now saying the prayer before dinner!!! I'm going to try and capture it on video because it is so darn cute. He only says the words that mean the most like "God, great, food, hands, amen" but he says them in the right order and knows exactly what he means!! 2 year olds can be cute when not throwing a fit.

The lull after the holdiays!!

So it's Jan 2nd and it's kind of depressing. Gavin went to stay with my parents and Andie this week and I miss him. He is such a sweet boy and will hug/kiss/cuddle with me whenever I ask him to. Luke has never been that way. When he is tired, he MIGHT come give me a kiss but other than that, he's not really huggy. Gavin is having a blast though. He went to the Horns basketball game today and loved it. He even got my dad to put a longhorn tattoo on his face! (oh the things you do for your grandkids) He played at playscape and got to register his webkinz husky. Aunnie got him a Disney MP3 player and he is lovin' it!!!!! Luke and I have been playing with his Mickey Mouse clubhouse and sticking Wiggles wall appliques on the wall. He loves sticking and resticking them.

We got back from Garden City Monday and it didn't seem much warmer. It was high in the 30s while we were there, 2 days it was in the 20s. Snow was on the ground so the boys didn't get out much. Gavin liked playing in it but Luke got too cold and came in after about 5 minutes every time. It was good to be home in 50 degree weather!!!! I wouldn't be able to handle that cold...I'm such a Texan.

The only funny story I have was when Gavin put on his long underwear and had his hand in his pants. I told him to get his hand out of his pants and he said "but mom, there's a pocket for it". He meant the opening in the front of the underwear for him to go to the bathroom!!!
