Trains talk?

As we were reading "A Crack in the Track" (my fav Thomas the Tank Engine book), Gavin said to me "I've never seen a train talk. Thomas didn't talk when we saw him (at Day out with Thomas in Grapevine)". I said "He didn't talk, did he? HMMMM...why do you think he didn't?" After contemplating this very strange situation for a second, he said "His batteries were probably broken!"
